Hi,

 I've just read your article on moving from a (now) legacy backup to a shiney new backup vault. I was hoping (and praying) that this article would give me the option to 'convert' my legacy backup to vault, but alasno.

The way I read it is that I have to upload everything again (some 40GB! at 300kps) to the new backup vault. Is this correct? Do you/will you offer some server based way to convert a legacy backup to a vault? This must be possible? Please say you will!

Sorry, but we don't have a way currently. Backup Vaults use a completely different format, and due to the encryption used by Jungle Disk we can't simply "convert" the data on the server.

Talking of encryption, I can't see any settings for the encryption key for a Backup Vault. The data is encrypted, right?

If you are comfortable with (or willing to learn) Amazon EC2, you can launch a Windows instance, install JungleDisk, restore your current legacy backup files and then immediately back them up into a backup vault. Once that's done, shutdown your instance and then "take over" the backup vault on your own computer. I had about 11GB of data and it look about 90 minutes to upload back to S3 from the instance. I think I ended up paying about $0.63 in EC2 usage charges.

@Jeff Johnston

Could you (or preferably Jungledisk Support) post a quick walk through of how to do this using Amazon EC2?

I have a 128kb/s upload limit on a good day (wireless modem), so solutions involving a local download are completely impractical.
